Determined To Stand, Glide, Walk!

We met Brian Wood on the EasyStand Facebook Page and found that he was an exceptional person with a captivating story to tell about his determination to walk again after his accident, and a tragic fire that destroyed his home.  We sent him a message asking him to share his story, he agreed and the rest is history!

On October 28, 2006, Brian Wood was in a severe car accident that resulted in a C2/C3 Spinal Cord Injury. He has a neck fusion from C4 to C7 and has since regained some arm function and a lot of sensation. While in rehab, Brian was introduced to standing. “I liked using the EasyStand Glider in rehab; the additional leg movement gave me a better workout, so that is what I decided to purchase!”

Active Standing Glider for RehabilitationFollowing rehab, Brian got his first EasyStand Glider, but on August 24, 2010 tragedy struck again, he and his wife had a fire in their home destroying everything they owned. He remembers, “I was at home by myself and my cell phone was unable to call out. Knowing that I couldn’t get out by myself, I prayed to God that he help me. Within about five minutes, a miracle happened! Three strangers that were driving by kicked my door in and carried me out!”

Brian is slowly replacing the things that he lost, including his Glider. Neither of his standers were paid for by insurance, but he found alternative funding sources. Brian hopes to resume his standing program, “Right now I stand once a week for an hour, but I would like to get back to standing three or four days a week. I am still working on getting additional assistance in my home that would allow me to stand more frequently.”

Brian is determined to one day, re-gain his ability to walk. “My motivation is simple … I want to get out of this chair and walk again!”  Read Brian’s story “Determined to Stand, Glide, Walk!”
