World MS Day Video to U2′s “Beautiful Day”

This film is a joint project of the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) and the Hertie Foundation launched on the first ever World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day,  May 27 2009.  It aims to capture the attention of people worldwide, motivate them to learn more about MS and become involved in the global MS movement.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the most common diseases of the central nervous system. Today more than 2,000,000 people around the world have MS. MS is the result of damage to myelin – a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged, this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body. Symptoms vary widely and include blurred vision, weak limbs, unsteadiness, pain and fatigue. For some people, MS is characterized by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern. For everyone, it makes life unpredictable.

  1. Wow, that video was amazing. My wife is a teacher and her good friend Shannon has a daughter with MS. The way the video was done withwith the U2 song really touched on the way MS affecst peoples lives. The last clip showing the lady dealing with it for 7 days hit home. You never know if you or a loved one could be next. I know Alzheimers didn’t seem real to me until my great grandmother started showing the symtoms of it at 85. It became more and more difficult to visit someone who didn’t even remember who I was. Great post and thank you for sharing the video.

  2. Hi James,
Yes I agree the video is great. I love that song and then to combine it with such a meaningful message makes it even stronger. The message was made very clear, when they showed all the different people it can effect, ending with a young beautiful woman who had only 7 days to deal with the diagnosis.

  3. Very touching video!
