This is a guest post on the EasyStand Blog by Andy Hicks. Andy is the Eastern Sales Manager for Altimate Medical Inc. and a NSCIA Executive Committee Member and Chair. Andy is dedicated to helping people with spinal cord injuries while both on and off the clock.
This Sunday April 26th I will be running the Big Sur Marathon, 26.2 miles, to raise money for the National Spinal Cord Injury Association. Big Sur, California is one of the most beautiful places in the world because of the beautiful mountains that come right down to the sea. But it is one of the worst places to have a marathon because you have beautiful mountains that come down to the sea, that you have to run up and over. I was talked into doing this because NSCIA needs help, more than ever this year. With the state of the economy, NSCIA is struggling to maintain their support for people that have had a spinal cord injury or disease. The NSCIA Support Center is were people go to get accurate information about everything regarding recovery and life with a spinal cord injury. If you want to help by donating to this cause, please go to http://www.active.com/donate/BigSur2009/andyyhicks
Thank you for your generous support.
Update: I finished! I survived, just barely. Running down the coast from Monterey, CA was hard because the hills turned into mountains and the wind would almost bring you to a dead stop. Here is a picture of what it looked like.

God Bless you Andy!
I don’t think I could ever run that far – plus up and down mountains. I could probably do it on a bike …if it were level ground :-)
Run Andy, Run!
Kudos to you Andy! I am proud of you for challenging yourself & contributing to such an important cause. Wish I could be there to cheer you on…company field trip!?!?!
Enjoy your 26.2 miles of “vacation” this weekend!
I’m with Bryanne! Company field trip to cheer on Andy…..and sight seeing.
Good Luck Andy!!!
